To stand out and leave a lasting impression in your field, you need to SHOW even more than you TELL. That’s where starting a business blog could elevate your Web presence.

Starting a business blog is a great way to establish yourself as an expert in your field. In the past, trends such as displaying quotes from your satisfied clients could speak volumes. In the landscape of  today’s new media, a blog can offer increased exposure and serve as a strategic marketing tool.

In a recent survey of business technology marketing executives by research firm MarketingSherpa, blogs were voted the No. 4 tool for generating sales leads. Read the recent Entrepreneur Magazine article.

There are a few things to think about:

Commit the time. Build the blog, and they will come. But be sure that not only are you regularly promoting it, but that you’re filling it with valuable content on a daily or weekly basis.

What is your goal? You’ll also need to decide what the purpose of your blog will be. You want to show that you’re an expert in certain topics, but you also want your blog to serve as a free resource or service you’re providing. You could point readers to major news headlines, or offer free expert advice that will be useful to their own lives and businesses.

Make everything shareworthy.
Of course, you want to generate the same “word-of-mouth”reputation that comes
natural to happy customers. Think about ways you can make every page, and every post, shareworthy, whether it’s “email to a friend” or “share this on Facebook.”
